Lake Nakuru is world famous for, and was created a national park to protect, its stunning flocks of lesser flamingo which literally turn its shores pink. Its birdlife is rich: a beacon for leading ornithologists, scientists and wildlife film-makers. The park spans an attractive range of wooded and bush grassland around the lake, offering a wide ecological diversity, from lake water, woodland to rocky escarpments and ridges.

Transport
The road connecting the two cities, the A104, is a tarred and busy route, since it is the main communication artery other than railroad between the country's capital and the valley. The heavy traffic makes it also a dangerous route with a high accident rate, so if you drive, drive safely.

The town of Nakuru is very well communicated with Nairobi. The train, the famous Lunatic Express, also calls here, or precisely all the way round, the city grew at the edge of the railroad, just as many of the major Kenyan towns. Plenty of buses and matatus cover the distance from Nairobi to Nakuru and back, as well as from the Rift capital to the most important towns in the valley and western Kenya.

Attractions:
The park offers an incredible 450 difference species of water, fish-eating, terrestrial and migratory birds

Kenya’s first Rhino Sanctuary:
Established as Kenya’s first Rhino sanctuary, the park now hosts one of the largest black rhino concentrations in the country while substantial numbers of white rhino have also been introduced.

Where to stay/accommodations:
Inside the park are 2 lodges –Sarova Lion Hill Lodge and Lake Nakuru Lodge. Along the perimeter fence of the park are many other lodges and tented camps. The nearby town of Nakuru offers various other levels of accommodations

Camping:
