April Migration
April is the month of the long rains;the depleted plains of southern Serengeti can no longer sustain the swelling herds.There is still however a plentiful supply of water all around as aersult of the heavy rains.By mid April,a large part of the migration will have reached the western part of the Serengeti usually referred to as the western corridor and in some years up to the shores of Lake Victoria.Further behind this group,the rest of wildebeest are stretch out like ants on the plains in every direction as far as the eye can see-well over half a million animals,on many days the animals are spread out over huge distances.Along with the ungulate(wildebeest)migration,another form of migration will be taking place.One that brings birds from Eurasian continent into East Africa during the Northern Hemisphere winter.
